Business Statistics Committee
In
January 1999, Mr. Jan Spiering, Chairman of the International Business
Forum, met with Chamber of Commerce members to discuss the challenges
in planning for the future growth of International Business in Bermuda.
It was deemed important that meaningful business statistics be collected
to assist the Government as policies affecting international business
are discussed and implemented.
It was noted that the priority areas for collection of business statistics
included:
- Growth trends in work permits;
- Growth trends in private cars and commercial vehicles;
- Trends in housing and rentals by foreign workers;
- Education requirements to meet employment opportunities.
During this meeting, it was recommended that a Task Force of business
organisations be concerned to collaboratively work to develop information
measures and collection procedures. Organisations invited to participate
in the Task Force included: Bermuda International Business Association,
the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, the Bermuda Employers’ Council,
the International Companies Division, the International Business Forum,
the Ministry of Finance, the Department of Statistics and the Department
of Immigration.
